Painting for me is a process of sorting and searching. I paint mainly with oil paint. I begin a painting with something of a mix of an idea, a feeling, an image, something vague and unformed. Looking for clarification through a reiterative process of addition and subtraction on the painting surface gradually brings something of my original idea into focus, but also allows for it to evolve into something totally different if that is what the work requires. I also use printmaking and mixed media to experiment with colour and mark making in a way that offers alternative possibilities than oil paint. Some of these works may then be used as a starting point for an oil painting or sometimes remain works in their own right.
